Background
- Founded in mid-1990s
- Founding President: Professor Y.C. Shang of the
University of Hawaii
- Current President (from September, 2009): Frank Asche,
Department of Industrial Economics, University of Stavanger,

Objectives
The Association is a non-profit organization, the major goal of which is to
promote socio-economic research and information exchange on aquaculture
through:
- Encouraging and fostering collaboration among
economists, sociologists and other scientists in aquaculture
- Encouraging international cooperation in research,
teaching and publication
- Sponsoring symposia, conferences, meetings and
other academic activities
- Publication of its own journal
Services
- The journal, Aquaculture Economics and
Management, is published by
Taylor & Francis
- Special sessions organized at international
conferences of the World Aquaculture Society (WAS)
- Email newsletter for members
- Further IAAEM activities are planned. Suggestions
from members welcome.
